Rewind (The Goldbergs Theme)

On September 30th, 2013 lead singer and rhythm guitarist Brian Mazzaferri announced through his blog and the band's official mailing list that they wrote and recorded the theme song for ABC's new comedy The Goldbergs. The theme was unveiled as the title music the next day on October 1st, 2013. As of August 30th, 2016, the only public version of the track is 16 seconds long, though a corrupted mono version of the full track with bits and pieces of the audio missing was leaked onto YouTube by a fan in early 2016. The song is fully mastered and ready to go, but the rights are ABC's, meaning the band can't perform the song or let fans hear it until the official release of The Goldbergs official soundtrack. There is no known release date yet for the soundtrack.

Story Behind The Song
This is the story as Brian told it, taken directly from his blog when announcing the track on September 30th, 2013: "During the Project Atma Kickstarter in April, I got a message from the backer who had just donated (within the first hour of the kickstarter launch) to receive our epic NES-guitar. We hadn’t met before but his name was Adam Goldberg, and it turned out he was a big IFD fan. He wanted to ask us to write the theme song for his eponymous TV show coming out in the fall, “The Goldbergs”, which he based on his childhood growing up in the 80′s. After wiping my eyes a few times in disbelief, I replied with a hearty, “Hell Yes!” and we got talking. It was an exciting, crazy process from there until now, Adam is awesome and has been a huge champion for the band, and I’m incredibly proud to say that the theme song “Rewind” will be in the opening credits of The Goldbergs."

Known Lyrics
I'm twisted up inside, but nonetheless I feel the need to say
I don't know the future, but the past keeps getting clearer every day

I know they weren't the best of times
I didn't pass the test or know my lines
but I wouldn't change a thing
'cause all those days were mine
so I rewind

There's a polaroid picture in my mind
it's me at twelve years old and I
wanna tell that kid that he's alright
these are the best years of his life

there's an 8-bit game inside my head
just one more hit and I'll be dead
attack and jump and charge ahead
but I never lose, I just reset

I'm twisted up inside, but nonetheless I feel the need to say
I don't know the future, but the past keeps getting clearer every day

There's an after-school special in my heart
and I do my best to play my part
I learn my lesson at the start
but in the end I get torn apart

no matter how fast I go, I find
a part of me gets left behind
the future calls and I decline
I turn and fight the winds of time

I'm twisted up inside, but nonetheless I feel the need to say
I don't know the future, but the past keeps getting clearer every day

I'm twisted up inside, but nonetheless I feel the need to say
I don't know the future, but the past keeps getting clearer every day

in my mind
I rewind
be kind
rewind
